Privacy Policy
SubSlap by Slap Studio is a desktop app for macOS and Windows that turns video or audio into styled, animated subtitles. This policy explains what SubSlap does with your data and the choices you have. It applies to the SubSlap desktop app and the subslap.ssslap.com website.
Where your media is processed
SubSlap gives you three ways to transcribe, and you choose which one runs:
- Local models (default). Transcription runs on your machine with downloadable models. Your media never leaves your computer.
- Your own API key. If you connect a key (OpenAI, Groq, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Mistral for transcription, or DeepL / an LLM for translation), the relevant audio or text is sent directly from your device to that provider. Your key is stored locally on your machine and never sent to us; the provider's own privacy policy applies to those requests.
- Hosted cloud (Plus tier). If you use Plus, audio is sent to our hosted service to be transcribed, translated, or processed, and the result is returned to your app. It is used only to produce your subtitles and is not sold or used for any other purpose.
Rendering and export always run locally on your machine, regardless of tier.
Account & license information
SubSlap Free and Pro do not require an account. To use a paid license (Pro or Plus), your license key is validated with our server so we can confirm it's active and enforce the terms of the license. We store the license key and the minimal activation data needed for that check — no browsing history, no file contents.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not show advertising or use advertising trackers.
- We do not upload your projects or exported files anywhere.
- We do not collect analytics that identify you personally.

Data retention and deletion
Local models and your own-key usage store nothing on our side. For Plus, audio submitted to our hosted service is processed to return your result and is not retained for any other use. To delete your license or ask a data question, contact us at the address below.
Children
SubSlap is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the SubSlap desktop app and the subslap.ssslap.com website (together, the "Service"), operated by Slap Studio ("we", "us"). By downloading or using SubSlap, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
SubSlap turns video, audio, or an .srt file into split, translated, styled,
and animated subtitles you can burn into a video or export as caption assets. It is a
production tool, not a general video editor; it produces and styles subtitles only.
Automatic transcription and translation can contain errors — always review the output
before you publish.
2. Licenses and tiers
- Free — a 7-day trial with full features, limited to local models and your own API keys.
- Pro — a one-time payment ($49) for local models and your own API keys, with no hosted service.
- Plus — a monthly subscription that adds hosted transcription, translation, and assistive tasks, capped at 500 minutes per month, shared by transcription and translation.
Prices are shown before purchase. A license is for your own use; you may not share, resell, or redistribute your license key. We may enforce usage caps and deactivate keys that are shared or abused.
3. Your own API keys and third-party providers
If you connect your own API keys, your use of each provider is subject to that provider's terms, and any usage fees the provider charges are your responsibility. You are responsible for keeping your keys secure.
4. Your content
You own the media you import and the subtitles you create. We claim no rights over your content. You are responsible for having the rights to any video or audio you process with SubSlap. For the Plus tier, you grant us the limited right to process the audio you submit solely to return your transcription or translation.
5. Third-party software
SubSlap uses FFmpeg for audio extraction and encoding; you are responsible for installing it as described in the app. Downloadable transcription models are provided under their own licenses.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to reverse engineer the Service, circumvent licensing, disrupt our hosted services, or use SubSlap to create unlawful or infringing content.
7. Intellectual property
The SubSlap app, name, logo, and design are our property. These Terms don't grant you any right to use them except as needed to use the Service.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for losses arising from inaccurate transcriptions, translations, or exports. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate a license that violates these Terms. Sections 4, 7, and 8 survive termination.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these Terms; material changes will be reflected by the date above. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here limits any mandatory consumer rights you have under the laws of your country of residence.
